How to fix the XM door window regulator
It seems that a busted wire in the window regulator is something every XM
will experience at least once, if not per car, at least one per owner. ;-)
The part catalouge image;
The mechanism consist of a winder wheel and two steel wires, one pulling
upwards, one pulling downwards;
The pull-up-wire runs over a plastic wheel;
the pull-down-wire runs over a plastic rail (no image).
The plastic rail has a just too sharp bend that forces the wire to stay just a
little to bent in it's parking position. Even though wires are designed to withstand
forces and being bent they tend to stress over their limit. My educated guess is
that this plastic rail is the root cause eating away the wires in combination with
moisture and road-salt.
Inner door panel
Remove inner door panel. There are some Allen screws to attend to but
otherwise you only need to gently prise the panel of. There are 6 snap-on
pins to take care of;
